Why should you make zucchini fritters?

Every meal on our blog portal Hana’s Recipes deserves certain space for its own unique benefits, persuading you to dedicate time and energy into the preparation. Zucchini fritters are no exception and we would again like to show you how advantageous their preparation as well as consumption can be.

The majority of their benefits lies in two irreplaceable ingredients: zucchini and potatoes. They are both rich in vitamins, minerals as well as fiber. Specifically zucchini contributes to the meal with its low calorie content and high water level, which particularly keeps the human body properly hydrated. Potatoes are a good source of carbohydrates and sustain people with the primary energy. Together with their rich fiber and potassium contents, they help manage blood pressure and reduce cholesterol levels, maintaining the overall cardiovascular health.

Besides the above, zucchini fritters can be perfectly adjusted to your needs and current cravings at the moment of preparation. They are either served as a main dish, side dish, even as a snack in the afternoon. You may also pair them with a wide range of sauces and dips, including sour cream, yoghurt or favourite tomato-based dip. Other vegetables can also be added to the recipe, such as carrots or peppers to enrich the overall flavours and aroma.

As you could notice earlier, all the mentioned ingredients a person needs for the preparation of zucchini fritters are commonly available as well as affordable. Therefore, if you are looking for a meal to cheer up your family members in a budget-friendly way, zucchini fritters are the answer! Not to mention that the overall preparation does not require any special cooking skills or equipment. The easily performed method of frying fritters in the oil ensures on its own a crispy exterior, while keeping the interior moist, yet tender. This contrast in texture is what truly makes the zucchini fritters enjoyable.

Let’s get to cooking! We wish you the best of luck to eventually achieve the crispy perfection!

  • 2 medium-sized zucchini (around 500-600 g),
  • 1 medium-sized potato,
  • 1 egg,
  • 2 cloves of garlic,

Let’s start with washing the zucchini and peeling the potato as well as the garlic.

Take 1 zucchini (or half of it) and grate it together with the potato. Place them in a strainer and add salt. Then leave for 3-5 minutes and release the juice.

In the meantime, finely grate the cheese into a large bowl. Add spices, salt, pressed garlic and eggs. After that, stir.

Transfer the mixture from the strainer to the bowl with the cheese and the egg. Carefully squeeze out as much water as possible from the grated zucchini and potato. Then grate the second zucchini. Add salt again and let the juice get released. Squeeze it all properly and add to the dough.

Next, add flour to the ingredients. The amount you use is individual, depending on how much water you were able to squeeze out of the zucchini. However, 4-6 tablespoons should be enough. The dough must eventually be wet and juicy.

Then heat up the pan. It is up to you whether you want smaller fritters with less oil used or large pancakes with the diameter of the pan. For small pancakes, 1 tablespoon of oil per large pan is enough. Fritters can be turned well to the other side and will eventually not fall apart.

For a larger pancake, it is better to use a layer of oil (0.3-0.5 cm). Put the dough to the centre of the pan (see the picture below) and press it with a ladle or a rolling pin to a thickness of about 0.5 cm. It will be properly fried and crispy. Also, there is no risk of it falling apart when turning to the other side.

FAQ: Is it possible to freeze the zucchini fritters?

Yes, even the cooked zucchini fritters may be frozen. However, let them cool completely. Then place them on a baking sheet to freeze individually and transfer them to a freezer bag. Once you wish to serve them again, reheat in the oven or on the stovetop. Good luck!
